  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Another problem that I've got with Albert now I've picked him up from the bunny boarders is that he stinks. I picked him up and checked his bottom and although there was no poo, his fur was quite wet and matted. I pulled several clumps out but he's still soggy and he still pongs. I'm going to pop to the shops to buy some baby wipes...do you think this will do the trick or do you think I'll need to give him a wet bath? Or shall I try the cornflour trick?

Is he wet from leaking wee?
That would mean a Vet Check.

I would wash his rear end with warm water and a mild hypo-alergenic baby shampoo.
You will need to check his skin carefully as if he is wet from wee he may have urine scald.
Once you have washed him dry him as well as possible and sit him on towels rather than hay etc til he is 100% dry.
Think I'd be rather cross if I collected a smelly wet Bun from a Boarding Establishment.....

He's not leaking, he is lifting his tail to wee (avoiding the litter tray though  thank god for wooden floors!) Will buy some baby shampoo and do that this evening when my O/H is here to help.

I'm rather upset about it actually. When I arrived they had a full bowl of food - I'd instructed to give them one handful a day between them and they were both ignoring the food and if I know my buns, they would have to have had a lot of food before they would leave any.

Have you read my weepy eye post - your advise is very much appreciated Jane! :)
