  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baby bunny with discharge and poor balance - help!

Inimical Me

Wise Old Thumper
I just got this email from my sister. Obviously I've told her to go to the vet and she will do... but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what's wrong before she goes? I'm not sure how bunny-savvy her vet is? This is the email... The baby is between 4 and 5 weeks old.

"Baby bunny has a problem. I've noticed a clear to yellow discharge around its nether reigons and it falls over a lot like it loses its balance or it's dizzy? I've tried to look it up on the net but can't find anything or maybe i'm looking in the wrong places will you have a look and let me know if you find anything."

Help very much appreciated.

Is it with it's much still? It sounds like it might have enteritus - possibly the dizzyness is a sigh that it's weak. I would suggest an emergency vet - it sounds very sick and it may not make it through the night without treatment.
