  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Miffy's bad again :-(

Miffy's snuffles has cleared up, but her back legs are still a problem. She has varying degrees of control over them, ranging from almost normal to really sore-looking.

She had xrays done today and a blood test. The xrays showed nothing, making the vet thing the problem was neurological. They also found a bit of blood in her wee.

The blood test results come back on Monday, so we should know more then. I'm just so scared though, what if she's paralysed, or worse?

Poor Miffy :(
Has your Vet ruled out EC?
If not I wonder if she should be on Panacur given her symptoms :?
Blood in wee can indicate a Urinary Tract infection so is she back on antibiotics?
Hope your Vet can get Miffy better ASAP
Sending lots of healing vibes

No, that's being tested for in the blood.

I'm not disputing your knowledge, it's just my ignorance! But what exactly does Panacur do and how could it help Miffy?

She never came off them, so yes she's on them. The vet said it could be a bladder infection or something similar, so I think you're on the same line of thinking.

Panacur contains a drug called Fenbendazole which destroys the EC parasite. It has to be given for a minimum of 28 days to cover the life-cycle of the EC parasite.

Thanks Jane,

If EC isn't ruled out (or indeed, is discovered) on Monday and the vet doesn't suggest Panacur, I'll mention it.

Hope Miffy is feeling better soon. I had a bun who had blood in her urine and she was treated for a urine infection, but it turns out she had burst a blood vessel and she as been fine ever since. Don't worry to much about the blood in the urine as if it is an infection then the antibiotics will sort it out.
Good luck with the blood test results.

Thanks everyone.

She seems ok in herself, quite perky and investigative, still loving her food! :) She just still can't use those back legs very well.

Roll on Monday - I never thought I'd say that!!!
