Rescues: Funding

mtoyah

Warren Scout
As you know I'm helping raise money for a rescue, but I was just currious....how do the other rescues onhere fund it all? Do you get 3rd oarty funding, is it out of your own pocket?

It wouldd be really useful to hear how you all keep yourselves a float as I know how expensive it all is!!

Hiya, yes most rescues and sanctuaries I know have to fund themselves entirely.
Most people have to work to bring in an income to fund the bunnies in their care, as donations are often few and far between in reality.
Some rescues offer sponsor bunny schemes and bunny boarding, but to be honest your costs are often as great as any income raised through this method :?
I have found you need to have your eggs in many baskets to keep a rescue or Sanctuary going

I like Eve don't get time for fundraising, I am just fortunate to have a very caring Hubby who works all hours to help the rescue buns. I board rabbits to help towards some of the costs but like Adele said it doesn't really cover the costs, But I love what I do and money isn't why I do it as with all rescues.

I know no-one does it for money which is why I think you all do an amazing job, I just wanted to see how people manage to pay for everything e.g. vaccinations etc just to get an idea.

I would never do something like this with the intent of making proft.....if I ever did it would be to help the buns and that alone!! :D

I think we all wonder where the money comes from for vaccinations and stuff at times    but you just find it I guess and the adoption fees that are charged go straight back into the rescue to help another bun.

I wasn't having a go on my previous thread, I was just basically saying why we all do what we do. I apologise if you think I was being funny.

I would also just like to say that rescues also need and are very greatful to people like yourself for fundraising on their behalf.

Oh god no not at all!!! Sory if it seemed like I thought that!!!

I just thought it was a good point that you made as I'm sure some people probably do think that there is the potential to make money!!

Sorry about that hun....must seem like a right ratty little so and so!!

I'm more than happy to help with fundraising as I think you all do a fab job and sacrifice so much to help all these bunnies and I was just trying to figure out of there was any way to improve matters financially for rescues......it's so hard!!!!!

do they? they must be mad  theres only a risk to make debt NOT money especially wen you do neuter and vacs for mysi and vhd ALL bunnies!

When i spoke to a newspaper recently they were asking about profits and how much rescues get in their own pocket to do this kind of thing...I had to point out that the kind of people who run rescues do it out of the goodness of their own heart, not to make a few quid!!! If that was the case they are in the wrong business!!!

It surprised me too!! Sorry if I came off harsh though......

I have to admit when i first started i didn't realise the extent of the cost involved-

i knew i would never make a profit or even get close.

I didn't go into it blind i spoke to everyone i could about it and to be fair they did warn me about the financial and emotional side! But unless you go through the deaths and mistreated and vet bills you don't know how bad it is.

Toyah is a god send, without her fundraising (don't worry i don't just leave her to it!!! ) and without her being on the other end of the phone for support we probably won't be here!

I know of one rescue (that i have spoken to the owner some years back) and their children go to provate school and they have holidays and employee people- i don't get how they do it without being lottery winners!!!

Whenever we get donations i know i should pay off the vets bills on the credit card but you just think of somthing else it could go on!!!

As everyone else has said ..pay out of our own pockets and the are very grateful when some kind people raise a bit of cash to help with the funds....all the rescues on here are strapped for funds so anyone wanting to help by doing a sponsored something or just a collection round their friends and family can really make a difference :D

I generally support my buns from my ebay transactions and my own pocket.

I'm not a rescue, but I have heard that some people in the past have set up specialist charity listings on eBay for rescue buns

Yes, absolutely loads more! You need trustees, proper accounts, all kinds of legislative hoops to jump through to be a registered charity - if you've got some kindly volunteers to do it all there are good tax reasons to become registered, but most small places don't have the time, people willing to be trustees or find it worth the hassle

i think there are enough 'non rescue' people on here for us to be able to each do a small fundraiser for one of the rescues! (perhaps even enough for a couple of people per rescue??)
come on guys!!! get volunteering :D :D :D :D
i'll do one, if i can think of something to do :D

a giant 'adopt a rescue center'!

does a rescue need to be a registered charity for people to do sponsored stuff??

edited to add, i know there are many peeps with more than enough on their plates as it is, so no one is to feel pressured or bad that they cant ok?
