Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poo problems?

It's me yet again!! :(

Ok, you'll probably remember the trauma of Dusty and her latest bout of gut stasis at the end of last week. Well, when I came home from work I was a bit worried (and looking out for this sort of thing), as there didn't look to be as much poo as I would expect, but both were eating.

Anyway, have been on a poo vigil for the last half hour or even more (!), to see who is doing what. Dusty seems fine, but Clover's are sort of...... long and sausage shaped, and stringy. I've been giving her Kittymalt for the past few days, but to no avail. Have ordered some Oxbow papapya tablets, but still don't have them.

Is this sausage shaped poo a sign of hair in the poo, or something else? Please help - am becoming poo obsessed!!

Sorry to bump this, but am worried. Any ideas? Bear in mind Clover has had stasis before too.

if they are stringy and attached - yes - that is a sign of hair, my Archie suffers with it when he maults. I know this sounds disgusting but break them open and you will see the hairs holding it together. Pineapple is meant to help break the hair down so try a little pineapple juice

Right..... have not long got in, but my Oxbow tablets have finally arrived and, miracle of miracles, the bunnies have eaten one each (after much suspicious sniffing!) How many do you think I should give them?

Am probably not making myself clear on my messages. I know what stringy poo looks like, ie. round poos strung together like a bracelet ( ), but some of Clover's are long and sausage shaped. Is this the same problem??

Not necessarily!! Sometimes some of my Buns pass poos that look more like an egg than a currant. It can even be a 'normal' thing for some Buns to pass oval poos occassionaly. Small, dry poos are more of a worry than egg shaped ones.

We could go on Mastermind with a 'Specialist Subject' of RABBIT POO!!
