  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Grooming

Hi,

Alfred has quite long, hair, but detests being groomed, I'm being very gentle, but he hates it, I don't really want to not groom him, as I am concerned his coat will get all matted.

How often do you groom yours?

I have an Angora, Maggie, and she has always HATED being groomed. Ideally it should be done daily but after 6 years she has never got used to it. So I keep her coat trimmed short, especially around her bum and her tum. That way I can get away with grooming her a couple of times a week. She would probably say I TORTURE her twice a week though

I do simba daily or every other day depending how much hair he is moulting.. but his fur is very woolly so knots very easily. Nala i do about once a week as her fur altho its long doesnt knot at all and she doesnt seem to lose much fur at all.

I have a grooming mit for mine (as well as a brush and comb - but they hate the brush and comb! )

With a grooming mit you can fool them into thinking they are just being stroked!!

With my lionhead Theo who is moulting at the moment I follow him around and pull out the loose bits when he's not looking!!

Oliver sometimes gets matted fur so I give him a feel all over every day and either cut or pull out the matted bits - I don't care if he looks a bit scruffy!
