Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Anything soothing I can use to clean buns underparts?

Hello,

I'm looking after a poorly bun at the mo. What can I use to keep his underparts clean and dry? The main problem is keeping him clean from urine. His legs are poorly so he is not able to wee properly and the wee is getting on his legs

Can you use baby wipes or is there anything else soothing I can use to clean him? The skin is quite delicate and pink and I want to use something that is gentle, soothing and the least stressful to use. Also anything I can apply afterwards to calm the area?

Love and hugs,

Nicola and Harvey xxx

I have read that you can use baby wipes - I would suggest that you use the unperfumed ones.
Kamillosan cream is very good - used by mum's when breastfeeding and is safe for babies.
You can find this in supermarkets but will be by the nappy creams - in a yellow box.

sweet almond oil is a good barrier. (it won't harm him if he licks it either.)
you can also add one drop of camomile essential oil and one drop of lavender to 20ml of the sweet almond oil. this will help to prevent infection and help the skin to heal. its also anti inflamatory so it will make him more comfortable if the skin is red.
