  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Clicky Giant

I finally think my vets trips are over and then my Xanti starts clicking! It's his front paw ankle I think and he doesn't seem bothered by it, but I was wondering if a calcium supliment or joint suppliment might help? Any ideas anyone? I don't want it to become painful.

I thought that with one of our dogs once and then realised it was just the dew claws rubbing together when the back legs moved... It could not be the "thumb" nails on the front paws clicking together when he moves, could it... :?

Because of the large size of the giant breeds, they are indeed more prone to arthritis and sore hocks more that any other classes. I would keep an eye out for it if I were you.

I would call the vet and ask him what kinds of arthritis stuff he has for cats (or rabbits, if he specializes with them) WHen you start giving them to him, try to see if you notice a difference.

I was told that frenchies need a high calcium diet for their bones so would say this applies to giants as well  :D :D a high calium diet would be better than any supplements I would of thought and would aid in the prevention of arthritus :)

i belive poor joints, in one of the many problems with contis  its what happens when you push something to its maximum limits.... and some contis do go over this.... hence my choice for a british giant instead... hope its nothing major for him

You should get it checked out before giving anything. Exra calcium can cause problems as you can overdose badly. If its the joint there are some very good treatments about for dogs with this, and you may be able to give something like that . val
