Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

flystrike prevention

Young Bun
I have had my bunnies for 3 weeks now and though they are indoor bunnies, I have not used any flystrike prevention on them just yet. I am so paranoid about flies, i have a repellent that kills them but dont know where to get any spray for the bunnies?

Also what would the first signs of flysrtrike look like? I try to check their bottoms everyday but one of them wont even let me touch her without running away, so I'm finding it very difficult! They have vhd jabs on Monday, do you think it's worth asking him to do it for me and is he likely to charge for this? thanks, kirsty

i bought Johnsons Insecticidal Spray (kills mites, Lice and fleas) but wasnt sure wether this can be used as a prevention againt flystrike. Does anyone use this or think it will be ok?

You're better off trying to prevent it happening, than looking for signs. I lost my Nougat to flystrike last year, and it happened extremely quickly. Make sure their environment is clean, the bunnies are not overweight, not producing excess caecals and are able to clean themselves properly.
I use dyma-mite too.

Dynamite...

I'm about to invest in this too, and wondered do you use the shampoo on the buns and the disinfectant on the hutch? How do you apply it to the rabbits, at what strength, and how often should you do both rabbits and hutch?

I think you can just dilute the bottle of Dyna-mite and spray it on the hutch and buns :D That's what I have to do with this insect repellent I'm using at the moment. the stuff I have lasts 2 weeks, I assume it's the same with Dyna-mite :D
