  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi. You may remember my nephews rabbit Lucky recently had one of her rear legs amputated after being attacked by a cat - well im glad to report that shes doing smashingly, he hair is starting to grow back in around the wound now, she actually chewed most the scab off herself. She seems to be coping really well, she has got around the problem of grooming by turning her head right around and using the other foot. Shes running around in the garden like mad and she is still quite difficult to catch although she runs out of steam much quicker. One thing i have noticed is she has trouble removing the sleep from her eye on that side but thats nothing. Shes eating superb and she is actually still indoors as im a bit wary of putting her back in her hutch as i think she has got used to indoors lol. Shes doing really well and im ever so chuffed- thanks for all your help/advice and support that was given when it took place

That's such good news :thumb: Once rabbits get used to being indoors they get you under their little paws and somehow manage to get you to let them stay inside! It's always the way!
