Bunny Hiccups or Something Serious?

Hi

I'm hoping someone can put my mind at rest... I have a five year old lop house bun and I am wondering if he is hiccuping! He has never done it before, but his sides have started twitching!

The sides of his tummy jump about 3 or 4 times in between every breath, his head nods up and down and he is making a slight sweak with every one. I've seached throught the forum and most say that their bunnies hiccups don't last very long, but this has been going on for well over an hour. Apart from these hes been acting quite normally, hoping around, and grooming himself. He's having a rest now, but they haven't subsided, and I'm starting to wonder.

Has anyone experienced anything like this, for this length of time with their bun?

Thanks in advance for your help everyone.

I would get this checked out. Nodding or stretching the neck up can be a sign that they've got something caught in their throat. Sometimes rabbits get a bit of hay or grass caught near the back of their throat and it irrates them hense the odd head movements as they try to clear it.

Hmm, Sounds like something Charlie did. Does he make a strange sound when his head goes up? I'd definately get him to a vet in the morning :) xx

Hi
Thanks for the replies. Yes he makes the sound every time his head goes up, its a bit like a quite gasping sound. Its just like a hiccup that we would have but its still going on and its been hours now. Ive had him sat on my lap periodically, giving him a stroke to sooth him, and it has stopped while hes been sat there, but as soon as I put him back down they start again within a few minutes.

I'm going to take him to the vets tomorrow, to get it checked out.

Thanks
