Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bladder prolapse

Mama Doe
Ive today lost a very speciel little rabbit :( . She came into my rescue a while back with a litter of three babys and the week after gave birth to another three. She was such a good mum and was barly old enough to have one litter let alone two. She was a pets at home rabbit that had been sold with a so called doe.Her last litter are now 10 weeks and there is only one left witing for rehoming and i was looking forward to finding her a nice new home. This afternoon i found a lot of blood in her cage and saw her straining. When i turned her over i saw she had a prolapse and presumed it was her womb. Rushed her to the vets were they operated at once. Sadly she had to be put to sleep and the cause was not her womb but her bladder had prolapsed, and although it was put back it was thought very likly it would pop out again :( . I carnt express how sad i am at this she deserved a better fate than this :( . Although my vet is excelent with rabbits she was unsure why this would happen, the only thing we could think of was that having two litters back to back it may have stretched her inside enough to make a space for the bladder to move down. Has anyone else had a bladder prolapse? val

Oh Val I am so sorry :(
I have not had experience of a bladder prolapse but I have had a Doe with spay complications resulting in the bladder adhering to the peritoneum and then perforating
I am so sorry your wee girl did not make it.

Thanks for that thought it was worth an ask in case anyone else had come across it. I hate not knowing why it may have happened. val
