Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit skin problems

Hey all

Not been on for a little while so hello to one and all and how are you?

I have a slight concern with Squishie. She seems to have a little bald patch on back, a bit above her tail.

On closed inspection it looks like it may be sore and reminds me of like danduff a bit or psoriasis, little scrabby like its been itching and flakey skin.

Can bunnies get skil diseases like this??? Or is it a result of vigorous grooming and forcing herself under her hutch which isnt an easy task anymore as she has a fat bum!!!

Any ideas guys?

She may have mites.
I'd get your Vet to take a look at her. Mites are really itchy so she may have been biting herself and making herself sore.

Hi,
could be Cheyletiella mites , they cause Dandruff. They are not as nasty as they sound.Take your bun to the vets he will do a test under a microscope. It cost me about £6 for this and they treated via injection.
Apparently now though they are stopping the injections because they are not EEC regulated and you can buy a spot on product.
