  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dougal has just bit his lip!!

He jumped on to the sofa then jumped off, dunted his chin off the floor.
Had a look and his top teeth has just broken the skin on his bottom lip.

Will I just keep an eye on it?
Or take him to the vet now?

Depends how badly it is bleeding and whether he seems in pain with it. Are you able to clean up the cut to get a good look at it? How deep is it?

I did a similar thing myself as a kid. Was running towards our caravan, tripped and my chin hit the caravan step - it bled like crazy but I screamed so much at the hospital that they refused to put stitches in it. Still have the scar to prove it.

clean it with salted boiled water (cooled obviously) if its looks like its healing nicely in a couple of days leave it, if it looks like its gonna get nasty seek veterinary advice pronto!

It's bruised and not deep.
He just licked his lips for 2-3mins after. Just letting the water cool before I clean it.

Oh I feel like a bad mum, 1min he was up then down again.

He's still running around like a mad bunnie.

Thanx for replying so fast.
