Ridiculous vet prices

Azraelm

Wise Old Thumper
It really makes me mad that there is such a huge difference in vet prices!

Esmereldas back teeth need doing- have been quoted £80 ay my usual vets, so just rung another one that someone has recommended on here before...and they said £25 for same treatment!!

I have also been thinking of having her front teeth removed, usual vets £120, the other vets £40!
Also, my usual vets would not give better treatment as the new one is thought to be very rabbit savvy.

Anyone else experienced this??

honestly i think being a vet is a licence to print money   i paid £150 just to have a bunny speyed and then go into stasis and treatment for that, she still died and now i am tat money down in the rescue, not great
then last week once i had signed the concent form to say they can do the ear op on my frenchie skye, then then told me it was cosmetic  but last week it had to be done for her health  another £150 down, the amazing thing is they do speyes cheaper than they have charged me to take some of skye ear away which was was falling off anyway!

Oh thats great that you go there too Jill.
I have PMed you if that ok, just to check its the same one :)

They do seem to vary. Mine's £30 for a neuter, & £35 for a spay. When they saw me turning up with different rabbits (like every week!!), they gave me a 10% bulk discount!! :D

:D I've been given a 20% discount on several things now at my vet - myxi vaccs, neutering for my ratties, very handy! Think I've funded their holidays for their whole lifetime and now they're not too bothered about the profits

20% Right.

I have enquired at a number of local vets re molar filing costs, and all seemed to be about the same. My vets was a little more expensive, but to be honest nothing like original post and also I have to weigh up the fact that my vet is a rabbit specialist and others may not be, and that they are very near my house and convenient to get to. This is very important if I have to take them in the morning before work, because I can't take half a day off every time I have to go to the vets!

However, compared to others in the country, my vets seem quite expensive. Maybe there should be some industry standards when it comes to vets fees, as there can't be at the moment given the vast variation in prices across the country! b-m

PS You should check whether the cheaper ones file the molars under anaesthetic, as some vets still don't. Personally I think this is bad practice but it might account for the vast variation in price.

Mandy/Jill,

Is this the Vets you use in Nottingham who are good with Rabbit teeth?

Anyone in particular you see there?

Thanks,

 !!
it cost me £75 to have my male neutered!
though they do give me discount for vacination if i go in with 3 or more buns....but....still...yikes! what a price leap!

I have no complaints about my vets either - around £8 for a standard consultation and £40 for a male neuter. I've never felt that any tests/treatement etc have ever been done unnecessarily and the prices for drugs etc always seem to be reasonable. I'm just glad that all the vets there are good with rabbits and they genuinely seem to be in it to help animals rather than to make money! I know they have lots of costs to cover but some of those prices quoted do seem a bit
