  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

REALLY WORRIED - strange poops

Joo & Phoebo

Young Bun
Hi everyone
I'm really worried about our bunny Doreen, she is doing the strangest poops. they seem to be stringy and come out in 2-4 pellets but strung together. what's wrong with her??? normally her poops are fine, smaller than our other buns but I presume that's cos she is smaller.

If you can help, please do - I'm really worried about her

When you say 'strung' together, do you mean literally you can see hairs and stuff holding it together, or is it like a little squished bunch of grapes?

ITS CALLED CA..... SOMETHING LOL, BASICALLY THE BUNNIES ARE MEANT TO EAT THEM?BUT WAIT FOR BETTER ADVICE, DONT WORRY!

thanks guys - it looks like its hay stringing them together! she's done a couple of them today (3 blobs strung together) and then a few a few days ago as well.
she eats a fair amount of hay and lots of grass, I think I need to cut down their pellet intake?

What pellets is she on and how many does she have? Does she have any veg and if so what? Does she have any of the dried grasses like readigrass or supaforage?

she has science selective, they normally eat 2/3 of a small bowl between them and fresh veg at night, i.e. a carrot and some green beans, cabbage or broccoli, it varies... no dried grasses etc. they have plenty of access to our garden and in their run during the day

Might be due to lack of fibre, they have no hay at all? Hay should ideally make up 70-80% of their diet and pellets should be limited.

Sounds like fur to me, my two get them too when they're moulting. The odd cube of fresh pineapple helps as it breaks the hair down in the gut, or some people use kittymalt - in the past I tried this and its worked well - I've just given them a pea sized blob each day for 3 or 4 days. Charlie hates it though so its a nightmare to get him to eat it  whereas all I have to do with Lavender is wave the tube near her and she's trying to run off with the whole thing!
