  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Even the simplest things...

...can harm your bunny

i picked sassi up a few hours ago to take her back to the shed, i had my coat on as its a bit chilly out tonight. she crawled up onto my shoulder so i picked her up and moved her onto my chest and thats when i saw blood!!!!

one of her finger nails had come off. i got some cotton pads and blood stopper and it stopped bleeding within a few mins. because my coat had blood on i went to put it in the washing machine, i checked the coat and low n behold there was sassi's claw nail in a button hole   !!!!!!!

i def wont be wearing that coat again when picking up my bunnies!!!!

 there is so much blood from their nails too that must have been a shock and made you panic.

One of the buns I had years ago had black claws so really difficult to snip, I took the smallest amount off but caught the quick! aww the blood, I felt so cruel it took what seemed forever to stop bleeding. Bun was fine though and hadn't even noticed.

The nail is probably too long. One of very first rabbit, she broke her nail due to ??? (probably running around the house). If it is short, they don't tangle too much w/ holes or whatever they get themselves into.
