  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Flea treatment?

I have just got back from taking Tess to the vets for her myxi vac and when i was there, the vet suggested that i start treating them for fleas as a preventative measure because we get so many foxes in our garden. trouble is he said it would need repeating every month and costs £16 a pop. With 2 rabbits, that is going to cost me £38 every month. being a poor student, i wanted to see if you guys thought this would be a worthwile thing to do or if i should just rely on the vaccine?

oooo that stuff looks really good. I assume there would be no problem if they ingested it? What with mutual grooming.

same goes with all products i guess. Was it bob martins that someone had problems with when their rats groomed one another? I'm sure i read something something along these lines in another post.

I did use the bob martin small animal stuff on all my small things but one of my Rats had a nasty reaction after grooming another with it on, so i went back to the powders which i've never had a problem with.
