  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Funny patch on skin - help!

Fairy Angel

Alpha Buck
Whilst checking Tilly over tonight I found this (sorry for size, but I didn't want to lose the detail)
Various156.jpg

It seems to be a patch of dry skin with what looks like a puncture mark in the middle, slighty smaller than a 5p piece in size. In case you can't tell from the picture, it's on the left of her neck, under her ear.

Does anyone have any idea what it may be as I'm clueless! Thanks!

I did wonder that but I was with her when she had them both done and I don't remember them doing them round there, but I could be wrong. It's a month since she had the last vaccine.

Hiya.
She's probably scratched her neck with a nail on her back foot whilst having an itch!!
Check her back nails are not too long/sharp and check her ears and coat for mites. You can put a bit of sudocrem or Tea Tree Ointment on the dry skin. As long as it is not pusy or weepy it should heal up just fine!!

Thats exactly what snowflake had on her ear!!!!!
It then became an infection in which the dead bit of ear fell off..!!! keep it clean and go to the vets... they will give you some antibiotics... and dont put anything on it except water.
It maybe just a scratch with a nail or something or got it caught on something.

Looks just like a scab from an injection, they seem to delay appearing too. That's the normal place for them. Sometimes they put myxi part in the ear too :)
