  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Could be nothing but want to make sure...

As you may know i am pretty much a beginner with buns. I got Eddie and Elsa just over a week ago. I was watching them earlier and noticed Elsa has 'pink' hocks. Now her fur is white so I'm not sure if this is what all white buns' hocks look like or if she is a bit sore. There is no reason I can think of for them to be sore. I got them 10 days ago and have laid fresh bedding for them every day or 2 and cleaned the hutch out completely twice. Its certainly not wet or anything. Em, I am using wood shavings, straw and hay as bedding and litter. Are they supposed to look like this and am I worrying over nothing or do you think i need to do something. They are def not bleeding at all. :?

They probably look especially pink because she has white fur. As long as they arent inflamed, cracked, bleeding id say that it is ok.
Check her claws.. if they are long then pressure is put onto the hocks (heel part) and that could make it red.

I'll try and have a look at her claws then. Thank you :) Kareen has just told me Elsa had sore hocks when she went into her rescue and that she hasn't done much running about as she had babies recently so maybe her skin needs a bit of time to toughen up again.
