  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

This may sound worse than I intend it to but is there any way to encourage buns to quieten down a little at night time? I know that they're most active at dusk and dawn but sometimes our two house buns (living in our bedroom) make so much noise that they disturb my husband and I and it makes us a lil bit cranky

So is there any way to encourage the buns to be a little quieter? Maybe even encourage them to sleep?

I hope no one takes this the wrong way or anything, I love my babies to pieces but I don't want my husband to get so angry with them stopping him from sleeping that he changes his mind about having them. :?

Can they not live in another room?

Mine would be a nightmare near me. They are in the furthest room from the bedroom, :D

Not anymore lol, we've opened up the cage they were in so that the cage is built into a little unit which is also built into the bedroom lol.

When they woke us before I could just pull the cage out into the living room but now that's not really possible.

I once read that you can change an animal's behaviour patterns. Like if you are home all day, play with them then, to make them want to rest on a night.
Don't know if it works though. Think my lot would just stamp & grunt

Good idea jane.

When I moved candy into my bedroom, freerange, she was dreadful, she spent all of her time waking me up and when jumping on didn't work she resorted to weeing on my pillow  that soon woke me up and also put paid to candys stint in my room.

Nope, hubby and I can't move to another room either lol.

I do try and tire them out during the day by letting them exercise and have a free run around for most of the day and sometimes it works but lately they've been pretty noisey.

Are they in something you can put a dark cover over? Reducing the stimuli will reduce their activity. My giant used to sleep in my room in a pen when we first got him, he leapt out of it onto me in the middle of the night, scared me half to death! lol

It's normally pretty dark in the room but I'll try the blanket anyway and see if that quieten's them down a little bit..no doubt they'll pull it down and make more racket tho

When we first errected the cage there were some fairly big holes in the sides because we'd just opened up the top of the grid cage to make it like the net of an open rectagle. Hubby was positive that they wouldn't get out but I wasn't so sure. Sure enough, after some scouting around Lagos (the far braver and more inquisitive of the two) figured out a way to climb the cage walls and jump out  We've put a stop to that now tho lol
