  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
My once bred European Lop bunny, Flops, has recently been sepreated from her 9 week old little ones (I'd say a week or so ago) and Though she still gets to see the one we kept she has seemed to have lost weight. We have moved her outside since its warmer out and she has been in the outdoor hutch last summer as well. I wouldlnt consider her scrawny, far from it, but just slimmer, is this just because she's no longer producing milk or should I be worried?

I would get her checked over by your Vet.
Weight loss is SOMETIMES the first sign of a problem and its better to act sooner rather than later.
Feeding her family will have taken a lot out of her, especially if she is still young herself.
I am sure your Vet will be able to advise you :D :D

It won't be because she misses her litter, in all honesty, she is probably releaved! Is she eating the same amount as she was before? I'd agree with JCO, get her checked over as weight loss can be a sign of several problems. I'm sure she'll be fine though! I'll keep my fingers crossed.

rabbit is not the kind of creature that is that attached to their babies. So it won't be the lack of attachment. Wt. loss is always bad news so have a vet check out.
