  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Brian has another week to go on panacur. Will he need another blood test to see if the treatments worked??
I didn't see my vet when I collected the medication and we hadn't really discussed the next step I will ring her but I'd like you guys opinions as well :D

All another blood test will tell you if another positive Titre is the result is what you already know......that Brian has been EXPOSED to EC.
Even b4 treatment a positive titre for EC cannot confirm 100% that a Bun acctually has the parasite but that he/she has been exposed to it.
So working on the basis of probability a Bun with a positive Titre for EC AND clinical symptoms can be ASSUMED to have the parasite.

A brief answer to your question..'NO', in my UNQUALIFIED opinion another blood test is not necessary.
Maybe in a few weeks time your Vet might suggest a blood test for Brians Kidney function (EC can effect the Kidneys). But if he were my Bunny I would only do this if he had symptoms of Kidney failure(ie weight loss/drinking and weeing a lot/loss of appetite/depression).

I will get him weighed at the vets and they can check against the last time he was weighed there. I hope he is going to be alright.
