Jack's-Jane
Wise Old Thumper
Uncle Albert had his MAJOR Dental treatment about 10 days ago.
It involved cutting away lots of his gums as they had granulated over severely impacted molar spurs
Since then he has only been able to eat liquidised feed.
Our Vet is away on a conference and she telephoned me to say that she had been able to discuss Bertie's case with one of the speakers at the conference.
Apparently the muscles in a buns jaw 'adapt' to accomodate dental problems. So when these problems are removed the jaw muscles have to adapt back again. This can take up to 3 weeks!! Until the muscles have adapted to accomodate the corrective dentistry the bun will not be able to chew.
I had been so worried that Berties inability to eat solids several days after his Dental meant he was in a lot of pain. Apparently this is not necessarily the case. It is just the mechanics of the jaw that are not able to function til the muscles have adapted. This makes sense as Bertie is obviously WANTING to eat and is pestering me for food all the time   If he was in pain he would be unlikely to do this. He takes loads of liquid feed and I suspect is actually putting on weight
Sorry this is a bit of a long winded post but I thought I'd pass on the info our Vet gave me
