Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi,

Well Scarlet is settling in ok. But I just want to run a couple of things past the collective intelligence :)

She had a sticky bottom when I brought her home yesterday and so I have been trying to balance getting her to eat whilst avoiding upsetting her tummy further.

Initially I just placed some hay in her litter tray but after a few hours she hadn't eaten anything so just before going to bed I gave her a very small quantity of Excel pellets (half a handful) and a little Excel forage.

She went straight for the forage but was also keen on the pellets so I went to sleep feeling happy that she was eating.

This morning I woke to hear her finishing of her pellets and found the cage floor scattered with droppings however there was also a small patch (about the size of a 10p) of soft dropping to.

She has now finished the small quantity of food that I put in last night and so far I have just supplemented this with a few handfuls of hay.

Although she has eaten a small amount of this she isn't very keen but has taken a couple of Basil leaves from me which she seemed to love.

She is definitely hungry again because she is now licking her bow clean, so I was thinking about giving her some more forage / pellets, but I feel so apprehensive since Sandy died and I'm not sure if it's the right thing to do as she is still producing some squishy poo’s.

Thought’s please?

Oh and should I wash her bottom or should I just leave her to clean it herself for now?

well I've heard that excel can cause squishy poos in some rabbits, so I'd feed her science selective - you can buy it online.

But really I think it's most likeley a temp problem caused by the stress of moving and being in a new place - if you think about it she's not going to sit and calmly munch her poops at lunch time (like my bunnies do) if she's all stressed and being startled off her bum all the time - My new bunnies have all had this problem on day one, but settled down and cleaned it up themselves - Is her bum really matted up with it?

Molly took a while to settle in and had a dodgy tummy for a couple of days after I first got her and again after her spay. I agree with elve that it is partly stress-related. Does she have somewhere she can go and hide if it all gets too much for her?
