Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

How to boost your bunnys immune system?

Nicola3

Mama Doe
Hello,

My bunny is under the weather at the moment and I have read on the internet about ways to increase your bunnys immune system.

I have read that you can give them soluble Vitamin C. How do you know how much to put in the water?

Does any one else have any suggestions as to how to boost your bunnys immune system when they are under the weather or have any knowledge of homeopathic alternatives?

Hugs,

Nicola and Harveyxxx

Echeanacia (i cannot spell that) its what us humans take to prevent colds/building immune systems.

I used to put a couple of drops in Alfie's water but dont do it for any longer than two weeks.

Boots so one with a dropper!

Vitamin C is best not added to water as it degrades very quickly when exposed to light, Vitamin C tablets are better and tastier for them, Oxbow make some which my piggies have liked in the past when I have ill ones.

Janice kindly sent me some of these (think they are the same) and Alfie loved them!!!

Hello,

Thanks Janice. Is it possible to give bunnies vitamin c available from Chemists? How about redoxen? not sure how you pronounce it, that is supposed to be a really good vit c supplement. Can you give bunnies this?

Love and hugs,

If you use vitamin C supplements that you add to water, you must remember that it degrades when exposed to the light, the chlorine in tap water actually inactivates ascorbic acid. If you opt to use vitamin supplements in water, then use tap water that has been standing for at least 24 hours, or filtered tap water from a filter system that reduces chlorine content. This is the vitamin C tablets Bonnie is talking about which Alfie liked http://www.rabbitstop.com/Merchant2...04&Category_Code=2Supplements&Product_Count=0

http://www.aracnet.com/~seagull/Guineas/VitaminC.shtml and http://www.guinealynx.info/diet_order-c.html have lists of vitamin c rich foods and their contents.
