Rescues - Follow up visits/calls from centres after rehome

Do all rescue centres carry out follow up visits and/or checks? After 6 weeks, I recently had a call from the rescue centre where I got Willow from (Heavens Gate, Somerset). It's really nice to know that they do this. I have heard that some rescues actually come out and inspect the living conditions. I personally would welcome any such visit. Willow is one of the happy success stories, she gets a caring home, lots of freedom and regular attention with plenty of space and a companion for life. It's comforting to know that these rescue centres are around. Thanks everyone for your time and donations that keep these centres going. Keep up the good work!

I can't speak for all rescues, but we carry out home checks where possible (bearing in mind there are only two of us to run the rescue and we have a couple of volunteers who can also carry out home checks on our behalf) and keep in regular contact with the new owners.

All rescues appreciate volunteers (for home checking, cleaning out hutches, spending time with the buns to socialise them, fostering etc.), donations, and of course pressies for the buns

Another way bunny savvy people can help rescues is to persuade people not to 'impulse buy' a bunny and help prospective owners make an informed choice.

Easter is an excellent time to encourage people to sponsor a rescue bunny instead of going out and buying the first cutey they see in a pet shop, cos guaranteed there'll be pet shops all over the country stocking up on cute fluffy babies especially for Easter shoppers and their children  No reputable rescue or pet shop would rehome a rabbit during this period.

in an ideal world we would always home check and do follow ups .
unfortunatly due to this job being something done in my spare time (  )i dont always have chance .
we do try to do home checks but i childmind 11 hours a day and my OH works shifts so its not always possible . We do ask for references etc though if we cant get out . We try to do follow ups even if its only a phone call or e mail , in fact most people who adopt from us probably get sick of hearing from me .

Hiya :)

Im not a rescue centre but I do take in problem buns, rehabilitate & rehome & I always do a follow up check about 6 weeks later, then another at 6 months just to make sure everything is going well, vaccs or neutering has been done if not done prior to leaving me & bunny hasn't become obese!!!(one of the most common problems I find is they get too spoilt!!!) and owner is happy still.

We do homechecks before we rehome a bunny and after we have rehome them. We usually wait a few months after they have been rehomed and we try to keep in touch with all that have adopted from us.
