Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ear scratching

Molly has scratched all the fur off the back of one of her ears. At first I thought Piper might have done it, then I saw her scratching it.

I had a close look at it and she has a little patch of dry skin, so I rubbed some tea tree/aloe ointment on it which she seemed to quite like. 8) I have checked inside both her ears and they look fine, it just seems to be a small patch of itchy skin.

It has been like this for a few days now with no sign of it getting any better or worse.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

I don't know what this is but might there be a clue in this.....

Candy had her vhd inj and the site became very red and inflamed and she scratched and scratched at it until it bled (over abt 24hrs) when I took her back to the vet he recommended that I use a cream that I already use on my daughters eczema only available on perscription. Have to say it did the trick, within sa few mins she had stopped scratching (the same way amy dose with her eczema) and it cleared up within a few days.

Can bunnys get eczema ?? or would it just be the same treatment for any skin irritation.

I have to say that it is a steroid cream and I wouldn't use it again without the vets say so.

As they say, if in doubt, give the vet a call.
