  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Little scabs along the lower jaw

Wise Old Thumper
I took Shaky in last Thursday and when i was brusshing him tonight I noticed little scabs along his bottom jaw, he is going in tomorrow to be castrated so I will get Vet to look at them. I was wondering if he could have caught himself with his claws as we he came his claws were very long, just wondered if anyone could shed some light as I have never had anything like this before.

Can't rabbit syphilis manifest as scabby bits along the bottom jaw? I guess if the current ones dry up and fall off and never reappear, it's likely that it was just him scratching with his long claws, though.

if it is syphillis it is usually the nose that is scabby and the back end but vent disease is usually scabby mouth and back end, both are a pain to clear up

My Vet phoned me and said it is nothing to wory about (Thank God) it looks like he as scratched it with his claws but there is no puss or anything underneath the scabs. She is going to pull them off and we are going to put him on some antibiotics to make sure if their is anything there then when can get it.

Could it just be spots? Bunnies can get blocked pores/zits just like people!

A few of my Buns have 'spots' too. I just gently groom the scabs out when they are loose and dry. I wonder what causes them? Janex
