Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sunscreen for rabbits

Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get sunscreen for buns. Snowy is a REW and I don't want her ears to burn in Summer. Hehe I know Summer seems a long way off right now, but I want to be organised!

That's weird, my neighbour said I should get some this morning, I was just going to post the same thing! I've never come across sunscreen for animals though.

Hi, I put sunscreen on Lavender when she goes outside, I just use a high factor childrens sunscreen from boots. I just put a small amount on and rub it in well to reduce the possibility of her licking it off.

Hope that helps.

They now do a dog/cat sunscreen! Saw it when I was in the petshop yesterday, didn't really have a good look but might be worth keeping at eye out for it or asking at your local petshop/vets? Might be better suited for buns, especially if it's OK for cats (not 100% if it was dogs only) as cats groom a lot like bunnies)

Will rabbits lie in the sun and burn rather than in the shade if they have a choice?

My rabbits' run is half in the shade so if they've got any sense they will just stay out of the sun this summer - but have they got any sense?

Oh, wow neither have I!! I knew there was a product similar like sunscreen for dogs, but I wasn't quite sure what was though!!

can I hijack this topic? What I really want is sunglasses for rabbits. Perhaps a soft, loose rubber band that mount behind the head or btwn. the antenna, covers UV A, UV B, that is comfortable, and looks good on them, so they can hop outdoor w/o sun hurting their eyes.

Had a browse for you, they're not exactly what you're looking for but it certainly gave me the giggles!

I found some but there is a small problem, it only seems to be available in Austrailia, it's called Sunstop Animal Sunscreen and it does state that it is ok for rabbits, if anyone finds anywhere that'll post it to the UK, please let me know :D

Also, about the sunglasses, this may be less helpful than my last discovery but maybe it's worth a shot. I found some Doggles, they are sun goggles for dogs, they come in a extra small size but I don't know if they'd be ok for buns :? http://www.petstreetmall.com/Doggles-Eyewear.aspx

Also found these but they don't specifically mention rabbits
