  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Small Rex or Mini Rex?

It may seem like a daft question  , but how do you know whether you have just a small Rex rabbit or a Mini Rex rabbit?

You don't know

Unless you have a *really* stunted Rex then it's reasonably obvious. Having said that, P@H seem to be selling rabbits that are apparently Mini Rex until they reach a size in between the two breeds

The standard Rex is meant to weigh between 2.7kg-3.6kg. The Mini Rex between 1.4kg-1.8kg I think. RexyBexy will correct me if I am wrong  Jane and Buns xx

Unless youve gone to a breeder to see the parents there is no way your going to know till they grow. The rabbits pets at home sell are mass produced and may have been crossed with a standard rex. Pets in general are a hit and miss thing there are still so many people out there who still think that dwarf lops are small  . They havent got the knowledge, so it may be that theve crossed them and because there a little smaller theve called them mini rex :? .Moral is you can never tell what your buying from a pet shop. val

Billy my Rex who's always been quite a sickly bunny only weighs 1.95kg! He eats like a horse though and his poo's are very normal. He actually eats more than my full size Rexes. Louis his brother, weighs 2.5kg! and is in much better health. I never thought they were Mini Rexes, I just began to wonder, because they have never got any bigger. I got both Rexes from a Rabbit Rescue.
