Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

what to do...

As most of you know willie was terribly sick a few weeks back. The vets diagnosis wa malnutrition and at first I wasn't sure he was properly diagnosed. He has been seperated from the girls since then and has put back nearly all of the weight he lost (nearly 1 1/2 pounds, about a third of his original weight). He misses having company, but I am reluctant to bond him back to the girls. If they kept him from eating before, why wouldn't they do it again? Also, the girls both seem much happier without Willie around. I haven't seen them Binky in months, and the past few weeks they are quite keen on doing so! Should I bond Willie with Holly? I want to do what is best for all of the buns, but I can't have 3 seperate cages.

Any advice or ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hiya,

Now you're aware that there is a potential issue I don't see a problem with pairing him up with a bun again. You can monitor his weight regularly yourself and if needed feed him a little extra seperately.

Sorry, is Holly one of the orginal two girls or another lady? If she's on her own then matching up her and Willie could be a good solution :)

Sorry, I was a little unclear.

Willie used to be bonded to Aspen (his mom) and Ashlee (his sister). with out willie the two of them are much happier and more affectionate with me.

Holly is a different rabbit altogether. I am worried about size though. He is about 3 1/2 pounds and Holly is about 6. Should that matter?

Thanks!

Size isn't very important, bunnies don't seem to care much if there is a difference. If they like each other, they like each other :)

I dont mean to "take over" this topic, but I do have a quick question that is very closely related!

I am in the same situation Aspen'n'Company is in, but with Blaise & Daisy. Blaise was not allowing Daisy to eat and they both seem better with out eachother. Actually, I dont think they were ever in "love" in the first place. Should I try bonding Daisy with Oliver, or leave them all seperate?

Thanks a bunch!

I had to seperate Mary from Squishy and Rex while he was very poorly, as he had to put weight on and have several meds. His pen was attached to their crate though, so when the food or meds weren't an issue I'd open up the crate door to let them be together.
Now he's living back with them permanently as they are so in love, I coudln't bear to split them up. However, I will get him out a few times a day and let him have some porridge and pellets while he's out, so I know that he's getting his fair share. And when they get veg/food when they're all together, I make sure to spread it out between 3-4 bowls, so even if one is hogging one bowl there are bowls elsewhere in the pen/crate for them to eat from.
