  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Smudge stinks!!!!

My lovely good litter trained boy has, over the past few days, started pooping and peeing everywhere he goes, and boy, does he pong!!!

He also refuses point blank to let me pick him up anymore! :(

Sounds hormonal :( Has he been neutered? Have you managed to check his behind? Sometimes their fluffy tails have the ability to get a lot of debris behind them and it gets infected etc. Usually it's a problem in the summer.

Or he could simply be poorly in some other way.

I've never been able to train my buns to poo in the right place. They always end up pooing elsewhere or using the tray as a toy!

He does need his bits off. :) I am booking in him either tomorrow or Monday!
His bum is nice and clean (checked every day). I just think he is being a grumpy, smelly teen

Sooty went through a smelly stage.. it's grim isn't it! It has stopped now he's been castrated

It really is pretty bad. I'm paranoid that my house stinks too!!!
I hope it does stop once I get him done

Candys very good at using her litter tray provided she's not engrosed in something on the TV (sounds stupid but neither her nor my daughter will move when Tracy Beaker is on), then she will just go where ever she is sitting. I've found that Oust Air Freshner works wonders and removes the smells altogether (works well on amys smelly trainer oders too).

Wish there was at least one man in the house to blame the smells on but sadly it's just us three girlies

Smudge was brilliant at using his tray up until a few days ago and now he is just dropping stuff everywhere.
I will get some Oust tomorrow :)

The oust is very good, Candys cage and Litter Tray are in my dinning room, so I have to keep on top of the smells so to speak. I also get something to sprinkle in her litter tray from Pets at Home called Cage Fresh Granules made by a company called Beaphar. I just sprinkle a thin layer under the wood shavings and they work on the wee smells.
