  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I knew something was wrong :o( :o(

Skip has been acting weird for about 1 week. He seemed ok eating /pooing etc but because i'm with him 24/7 now i just knew something wasn't as it should be.

Anyway last night he kept shaking his head and scrathing his ears like he had something in them. Had a look but can't see anything.
Then he proceeded to creep around the room and seemed really freaked out and was banging his feet.

I mananged to calm him down but he keeps shaking his head like it's really annoying him. I'm worried he can't hear properly and this is what is freaking him out.

I cannot get him to the vets until Sat due to living too far away and having no car

He seems fine otherwise, still eating/drinking/pooing etc.

Any ideas??? Could it be ear mites or would you be able to see these?? :?:

I've had a look in his ears and cannot see anything.

Are they in the inner ear or normally in the outer bit??

Thought it could be ear infection otherwise?

if its mite they are normally around the base of the ear (inside obviously :D ) if you cant see anything i would see the vet!

Awww Poor wee Skip X I would have said ear mites too but you would see them in his ear. I think a vet trip is def in order XXX

Poor old Skip.

I can't see any mites and there is no discharge !!

Mmmmm hope it's not the beginning off an ear infection.
Can't really get to the vets until Sat unless it becomes mega urgent then i will have to get a cab

It could be the start of an inner ear infection. You wouldn't be able to see anything unless the ear drum is ruptured. You should watch him very carefully for signs of head tilt - eyes drifting, looking as if he feels sick, head tilted, falling over, etc, as he will need attantion straight away if that starts as it is far easier to treat when caught early.
