  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How does this vet sound?

Daisy keeps sneezing on and off, so off to the vet we go! There are two vets within a pretty short walk of where I live (hurrah!), both are small animal practices, but this one says they specialise in small and exotic animals, and they have a website with a page about rabbits, and they sound reasonably rabbit savvy. This is their site - whaddya think?

doesn't seem very knowledgeable to me, but their website may not have been worded by a vet at the practise - they probably paid an outisider to do it? Best talking to the actual vet - and they vary even within the same practise :?

Right the text is generic text which is given by the company that makes the sites - its a pretty big company which makes a lot of vets sites so whatever it says on there is nothing to do with that actual vet so id call them for a chat

yes a site local to me said about putting them on grass and not needing hay if they are - I emailed to complain about this gross inaccuracy, but never heard back - maybe they all use the same 'expert' writer? :?

i just tried the design site they all use, its a step by step process, you choose design, enter name and address details, opening times and staff details and then basically it says congratulations your site is made and theres all the links created for you for dogs / cats / rabbits with the type already there for them

pretty idiotic to use this as an advert for their service isn't it? I actually chose a different vet because the website put me off! Don't they realise that the internet is how we research stuff these days?

Well I know it's basic info, but I thought it was promising that they actually had a page about rabbits, shows that they consider rabbits something worthwhile as pets (unlike some)...or maybe just a ploy to get business? Either way I'd be speaking a vet first before they get anywhere near my animals anyway. The thing is, there are a LOT of vets in the area, I can possibly visit any between postcodes M13-M21, which leaves me with 13 practices. Quite a few of these only treat cats, dogs and larger animals (according to the RCVS website). The ones I'm hoping are decent are the ones I can get to on a bus with a rabbit in a carrier without too much stress for either of us  . Either way, I'm going to go through the list, narrow down those that treat rabbits, have a look at the info they provide, narrow it down to a list of places to enquire by phone about their treatment of rabbits. So, for a new question, do we all think that this place sounds reasonable to be considered  ?

Even better, does anyone know of a good vet in the south Manchester area?

Sorry for rambling, it's just I care about my buns so much sometimes I don't even trust my own judgement around them!

i wouldnt use boundary for a rabbit. the vet their could neither sex my bunny at 5 months old, and also he had no idea how to administer the myxi jab. oh and they also told me to starve my rabbit for 12 hours before his neutering :x needless to say i didnt use them.

ashleigh vets in chorlton specialise in exotic animals and seem very knowledgable in rabbit care

Thanks :). That's them off the list!

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into those two vets :).
