  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Martha fitting

Martha was out in the garden today relaxing in the sun. Then she just started fitting, she was on her side with her legs moving violently. I managed to pick her up because I was worried she was going to break her back, she calmed down after a while, but her heart was racing and she was breathing really fast. I put her back down and she was wobbly on her legs for a few minutes, then she was back to normal.

I was so worried, she is 6 years old and a french lop. I have seen cats and dogs fitting but not rabbits before, and Martha is my big baby :(

I'm hoping it was a one off!

These are a few pics of her I took about half an hour before she had the fit.

Yikes! That must have been a shock and a half, I'm glad she's okay :)

It might be worth checking for EC? I think that can cause fits. Treatment is just a months course of pancur.

Best wishes,
Tam

She seems ok tonight. A little bit quiet and she looks a little bit dazed, but otherwiseok. I spoke to my vet this afternoon who said just to keep her quiet at the moment and I will see how she is in the morning.

Awww hope she is ok. Sounds frightening.
Hope she perks up a bit in the morning. They do like to scare us dont they!!! :?
