  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunnys ears are cold??

Although my bunnys are outside they have a full hutch full of hay and straw i also cover them over and have bubble wrap on the fronts of the hutches, but i noticed today one of the rabbits ears felt cold,is this a problem??Iv just order a load of snuggle safes, hope they come quickly

Their ears will be cold if the weather is cold as they act like radiators to help the buns regulate their temperature. In the hot weather they pump lots of blood to them so heat can be lost and in cold weather the blood flow decreases so that not as much heat is lost. The important thing is that their body core stays warm. And rabbits are well equipped with all that lovely fur to make sure that it does. With your considerate help coverng their hutch to keep out drafts that could get the cold into their fur they should be fine.

When we used to have a rabbit when I was little, she basically lived as a wild rabbit (her choice - she did have the greenhouse with a hutch inside always available) but her ears used to sparkle on frosty mornings! It never seemed to bother her though and she never went inside for a warm!!!!
