Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Blood shot eye?????

Hi
Wonder if anyone can help. My mini lop has got a blood shot eye. I noticed on Saturday night and although yesterday it has calmed down considerably, i'm thinking maybe a trip to the vets just to be sure he's ok. He doesn't mind us rubbing his cheek under the blood shot eye but he is squinting a little. Anyone have a clue what is up with him.
Thanks

Hiya,

Have a good look and check there is nothing in it, occationally they get a grass seed or bit of hay. He could have scratched it or got an ulcer. A trip to the vet is a good idea, they'll probably give you some antibiotic eye cream which will clear up any infection :)

Yes a trip to the Vet is DEFINATELY needed as if a corneal ulcer develops due to untreated infection it can be very difficult to get it to heal up. The ointment/drops prescribed for eye infections clears the early infection up a treat :D :D Jane and Buns xx

There is natural tear eye drop (no preserative) for human, which works well w/ any animals. You should always have some in your home, so in between the time from the moment it happens to the time you ends up in a vet clinic, you can drop some natural tears on her eyes to comfort her.
