Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

French lops

touie

Wise Old Thumper
at what age are they fully grown? I picked Amy up today and she is 6 months old and about the same size as fudge around 4kg. Also i was wondering whether she should be on a junior food if she's still growing or whether an adult mix was ok?

Congrats on your new eddition! :D I have heard that French lops are not fully grown for a year. They do all their growing in 8 or 9 months and then spend a few months filling out!.
I'm not sure about the food, I'm still feeding Storm junior food mixed with science selective at the moment and he's about 5 months.

thanks  extra thought does that mean they should be spayed at a later age than average sized rabbits too? :?

my dangermouse was a french lop but he was a cross but we didnt know what with he was huge and grew till about 13 months and filled out then i think it depends on the rabbit, mouse had junior food till 9 months and we slowly introduced adult hope this is some help?

If she is healthy and a good size she can be spayed at 6 months. I know it's different for boys, but storm is going to be neutered tomorrow  they brought his op forward!. The vet did make me laugh though when she said " are you SURE he's only 5 months?? he gives the impression of being older!," ( he is BIG in other words!

I hav two frenchies and they seem to take a while to mature, Ruby is
six months old and has i bit to go before she catches up with Derek (now a senior citizen) i don't tend to worry to much as they are a tough breed.
