  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

help needed - dressing stuck to wound

conny

Warren Scout
Angel got sore hocks (from carpet burns), when I took her to the vet they said that it wasn't too bad, put ointment on it and bandaged it.

Trouble is I am supposed to change the dressing today but when I tried some of it is stuck to the wound. I'm not really sure if this is because of the wound weeping or the ointment.

Should I try to take it off or just rebandage it and take her to the vet tomorrow (they've already closed up for the night)?

Do you think soaking it in warm water will help it come off?

Or can anybody think of a better idea ......... please!!?

i agree that the soak might help but try and let the bandage come off itself, dont try and pull it.

also try and make sure its as dry as possible before redressing.

Try Vaseline(if you have any) rather than water. Just gently rub it into where the dressing has got stuck. For future reference you can buy non- adhesive dressings (Melolin) from chemists or you can use petroleum jelly (Vaseline!!) impregnated gauze which chemists also sell. Jane and Bunsxx

Thanks everybody.

It came of really easily with a little warm water.

It was actually stuck to her fur (because of the ointment) and not the wound which in itself was a relief.
