  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I don't know if a boy or a girl now, after taking a second peek.   Boy do I feel dumb. Skittles seems to have a slit, but it looks like there might be something protruding when I apply slight pressure above the organ...   So, is Skittles a girl? Or is Skittles a boy? Glad I used a non-gender-specific name!

I have this problem with Daisy. She's pretty placid, but hates being turned upside down, and she's nervous of me enough as it is. When I have managed to take a look, it's very hard to tell. Luckily, my two buns are never together, so there's no chance of any "accidents", but it's so hard to tell. The shop said she was a girl, but I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. Unfortunately, Daisy is NOT a gender ambiguous name

You might havce to wait until skittles matures. It shouldn't make a difference in the bond you have so it isn't a big deal. I tend to favor my girls, but that is cuz I like spunk in my buns!

Heh, I could never tell. I ended up having my vet do it (When they were quite young also.....I used to have 4, there was 3 males and 1 female)
She told me she couldn't be positive until they were older but she was right with all 4 :thumb:

If the 'bit' that protrudes has a.....ermmmm.....slit like this.. '!' then you have a girlie.....If the opening is more like this...'0' then you have a lad!! You can also feel the shaft of a boy buns willy    if you...ermmm...sort of hold the lil' protruding bitty gently between your thumb and forefinger and gently slide upwards towards buns tum   .Then again you can just wait a few more weeks and see if Skittles drops any plums!! :D :D OMG if a non-bunster person were to read this post    Jane and Bunsxx

I managed to turn Daisy over and find her bits among all that fur! Her anus and vagina were very close together, but the...er..."protrusion" was...ambiguous  . But it does look like she'll be staying a "Daisy" after all!
