  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I normally just use plain old water to wash dirty spots on my buns.....Only this time erm Cygnus was peed on.......lol.....and since he's white....well half yellow now.....lol.....but water just isnt getting it off him....and its so gross lol.....Or if not does anyone know how to get it off?

There are shampoos you can get from most pet shops that are specifically made for small mammals. Or if you can't get hold of that you could use baby shampoo, as it is very mild.

You can also use fragrence free baby wipes, it might not get the wee stain off though... that should come out with the next moult!

I have used assisi baby shampoo from lush. Lots of natural ingrediants, but use sparingly. I've also bathed my bunnies in a ickle baby baff ballisic from lush, ( designed for young babies!) only about a half of quarter of one in the sink with plenty of water, makes bunnies smell sweet! :D of course there's always the pet shampoos, but I find them too harsh and drying on my buns. my old rabbit, bilbo, needed frequent baths, he was very old ( nearly 10!) and really couldn't look after him self. he often had a messy bum unless I bathed him. He got so used to it he used to relax in the sink and enjoy all the attention!

Hibiscrub is good for cleaning bums as I use hibiscrub all the time you can get it from any chemist and also Tesco's can get it for you, The vets use it if they clean wounds up and things.
