  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Any advice re: PDSA

Has anyone used the PDSA for their bunnies?

I qualify for help with costs of treatments if my animals are ill if I go through the PDSA and just wondered if anyone had any experience of them with bunns?
I have called round for quotes on neutering and they seem the most reasonable in my area.
The vet I have always used for my cat beore charges £65 for a buck and £85 for a doe whereas PDSA quoted £40 and £50

Thanks

Ive used the pdsa they usualy have one of there vets thats rabbit savi  , they dont do nutering though unless its on medical grounds. I had the chance a couple of months back to speak to one of there vets and it seems they are discusing whether to start doing them again.. Were do you live because there is the celia hammond trust based at new cross that will do spays and castrations for people on low incomes. val ps: should have added the pdsa are great.

Thanks

I spoke to them today and they said they do neutering but they don't do it for free, there is a small charge.

They do however give free consultations and treatment for sick animals which is good to know.

I also looked on my local RSPCA site too and they do bunny neutering for £20/£30 which is even better.

Both the vets I use (one of which I am working at at the mo) are great with buns and they only charge £30 - £40 for a castrate. £65 is an obscene amount!
