Carrier for French Lop Top Opener Where can I get One?

MoBunny

Warren Scout
Hi,

Billy is a French Lop and is 5.5KG I'm looking for a large carry box/case top loader as I can't get him out of his front loader at the vets

I've tried all the local pet shops and have had a look on line but it drives me mad as you ask for large and the ones that come up are small for a Frenchie.

I know you bunnie shoppers will know where I can get one from

Thanks in advance

Maureen

PS a closed in one not the open cat type as he will freak out if he can see all round.

maureen i have only see the big ones but not open top. pets @ home do a large on for £25 allthough it opens at the front. i can get my giants in there!

Hi Eve,

He has a front loader which is really large, but when I have to take him for his yearly check up we can't get him out.

He was in being neutered and you know they have metal cages it sounded like KING KONG. The vibration round the building was making everone in the waiting room laugh they thought it was an elephant not a rabbit

You know what a rabbit is like when they dig in and won't move.

Hope your feeling better Eve, chin up

I have a similar prob with my cat. She is a nightmare to get out of her carrier.

My vet tips it on end so that the door is at the top and then she can be lifted out with ease, well no not with ease but it's less of a fight!!

Some of the plastic front opening carrier have clips along the side so it splits in half. I've got one that Gpsy came in that's quite big. I'll see if it has a company name on when I go out and feed them.

Yes mine does, that's how I use it too. The cat is so crabby at the vets these days that it's impossible to get him out the front any more - he's all teeth and claws! I've just looked at the top, it's a ferplast atlas 20.

Hi.. you could always find a local carpenter and get them to make u a box. Show rabbits are often transported in wooden boxes which are certain sizes depending on the size of the rabbit with a long strap attached to go over your shoulder if u wanted it. I will try and find where else u can get them... im sure one of the hutch companies make them.

Found it.. http://www.avondaleanimalhousing.co.uk/index.html send them an email asking for a quote and what size u would want. I have occasionally seen them for sale on ebay but none there right now.

Thanks for all your replies, I will have a look at them all.

Not sure I could manage a wooden one, my back is not too good, old age

I have looked at the ones that come apart, but the door and everything comes off and not sure I would want to try and put it all back together whilst Billy is running around causing havoc in the surgery

Pehaps we should start to design our own, hutches, carriers, indoor cages etc after all we have all the knowledge

We certainly know what we want

You can get wire carriers which open at the top. Trying to think of the name..Shaw/Shaws?
Ah, here it is..
http://www.shawspet.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=28142

They come in all different sizes, they're not cheap though. And if you wanted to give him a bit more privacy and you're any good at sewing (or know someone who is!), you could knock up a fabric cover to slip over it and just leave one side uncovered for fresh air?

Or there's a similar but slightly cheaper version with wider bars - at the bottom of the page here

Hi there,

I used to show frenchies so here goes;

Top opening is THE only carrier i would recommend for a frenchie (as it is impossible to get them in & out otherwise!!) recommendations;

Wire

Shaws as recommended above
But Hay, droppings etc will fall out through bars & mess up your car. Also offers no protection against the elements (wind, rain) without a separate cover (which rabbit will probably chew!!)

Wooden

Try Avondale animal housing
Should come with a choulder carrying strap but i found the wooden boxes + weight of French lop = too heavy all in all.

Also too stuffy to transport any distance in hot weather.

Plastic

Savic pet Caddy

This is what i resorted to when i showed my frenchies, as it is lightweight, doesn't get too stuffy in there, the bedding doesn't fall out as much as a wire carrier, it is hygenic as you can disinfect it properly whenever you want (ideal if you suspect one is poorly)so would not harbour germs like a wooden one would.

Yes, forgot to say, you would need the Pet Caddy 2 for a frenchie.

I actually bought the very same colour to the ones on the PC2 picture, looks very fetching in the steel blue, especially as i used to specialise in blue Frenchies, so had all my boxes to match the rabbits!!

hi

I've got the savic ones and although they open at the front, they are easy to undo the top from bottom - just make sure it's fastened up properly again after the vet's seen them though, as they are a bit fiddly to do whilst talking to a vet etc - Don't want them falling on the floor!

you need to look inside and make sure the 'teeth' of the carrier top and bottom are lined up properly - and they are a great price too!
