On Thursday I found one of my bunnies, Elise, was dragging her back legs.
She has been in for an X-ray which was inconclusive - her pelvis is definitely fine, but her back looks 'a bit wrong' but they aren't 100% sure she has broken it.
She has been on antibiotics (Baytril) since Thursday and also daily wormers in case it is E. cuniculi. She has also been kept still in a small cage (apart from when I give her the meds: I realise that movement might make her back worse, but I have to take her out and hold her for that or she won't let me give them.)
She is getting worse. She is less able to move about than she was last week. This morning she seems very depressed, and only ate one apple slice, and much less enthusiastically than normal.
Elise is at least 7 years old. She is normally a very active rabbit for whom social interaction is really important. She likes to grab her treats and run away, she likes to dig, she likes to zoom about. She likes to be in there in the thick of it, but at the moment I can't let her mix with the others at all. I suspect the isolation and inactivity is contributing to her depression.
I have her booked in to see the vet again at 4:30pm this afternoon. Is there anything else we can try? I am beginning to think it's time to let her go.
