Does anyone know where I could get hold of a heat lamp from?? U know the ones they out over chickens and things???

Just my bunnies are in the garage over winter and its freezing for them, it wouldnt be directed at them, just a safer way to heat up the garage thats all thanks...........

how about trying some of these farm feed type shops? They may not stock them but might be able to point you in the right direction, maybe worth asking at a farm too

A couple of places which may have what you are looking for.

Would you be better off with a tubular low level heater which many people use in their bunny sheds. http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Heating_Index/Tubular_Heaters/index.html or http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=102502&ts=92277&id=43699

You can also get protectors to go over them to stop things or bunnies touching them.

I am not an electrician  I do know that the tubular heaters electricity consumption is worked out in watts. A 60w heater will use the same electricity per hour as a 60w light bulb, they are not super powerful but intended to take the chill away. The bird heaters will work out at the same depending on the wattage of the one you buy.

In comparison to a 1 kw heater you can run a 60w heater for just over 16 hours and use the same electricity as a 1 kw heater.

Thankyou for your help everyone!!

Mum went to a local farm type shop today and apparently has found a heat lamp!

Will be putting it to the test tonight, just in time for the icy weather!!

We are new rabbit owners and have been worried about how cold it is getting :? We have given them extra straw and hay but can not bring them inside anywhere. Will they be OK without a heat lamp :?: :?: Surely they are outdoor animals in the wild?
Reassurance please! :!:

Hello,

I have been advised by my vet that rabbits need to be kept warm........Can you possibly insulate your hutch??

The heat lamp I have just bought is absolutley fantastic, and my two sit beside it....

Rabbits are better at keeping warm in the wild because they burrow underground and it is therefore a lot warmer than a hutch for them..

You can get hutch insulators from websites like hop and hutch etc - these block out the wind and rain.....

I keep my rabbits in the garage on a night time and that is where I have my heat lamp....Maybe you could do the same???

I have known of baby rabbits and guinea pigs dying of the cold in the winter....so please bear this in mind.......

Hope this helps..........
