  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

how do you know if a rabbit is at the right temperature?? ive read that its something to do with their ears but should the ears be hot or cold? because when i have my rabbit inside his ears always feel warm but outside they are really cold - which temp should they be at??

Rabbit use their ears to regulate their temperature so they vary quite alot :)

Alfie's change, when he had cystitus the other day and i kept him inside & the heating was on his ears were freezing!!!

Sometimes one ear is hot and the other is cold..this morning after worrying he was freezing outside i was delighted to discover that both his ears were luke warm!

My dylan has bloomin huge ears :) and they are a real barometer ie when hes inside and hogging the radiator they are really hot but normally when hes outside esp now they are cold.

The thing that was really good if the vet hadnt been a bit daft was he got an ear infection once and you could tell the difference in how they felt except the vet didnt believe me that it was too warm until it swelled up. We know now tho!!! 8) 8)
