  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Checking in on the bunnies today after their first night together, I found Crunchie with this scar on her ear
Image394.jpg

they aren't showing signs of hostility, infact they are very affectionate toward each other, licking e.t.c
I don't know exactly how she could have done this, I don't want to blame Merlin. She may have caught it on something?
I don't really want to seperate them at this delicate time, whilst bonding.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what I should do?
Also do I need to treat this wound?

Hiya. From what I can see it looks like a small haematoma (sort of bruise). Maybe some over-vigorous licking broke a tiny blood vessel in her ear. Very easily done!! As long as the skin is not broken then it will just disperse over the next few days. If the skin is broken then just very gently bathe it in boiled, cooled water and keep an eye on it for any sign of infection. I am sure it his probably a bunster love-bite!! :D Jane and Bunsxx

oh thank you, I was very worried, I can't really tell if the skin is broken as she won't let me near her since Merlin arrived, she seems to be far more preoccupied!!
I will bathe it anyway just i case (if I get the opportunity)!!
Thank you again, I have no idea what medications to use andI don't lke going to the vet to get chemicals, I prefer using herbal, do you think a little tea-tree oil would do any harm?

..I'd just stick to plain boiled/cooled water for now. Tea Tree oil doesn't normally cause a problem but it probably isnt necessary just now. Best to just let the 'bruise' disperse over the next few days. Sounds like your bun is in L-u-r-v-e :D :D !! Jane and Buns xx
