Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
I caught a wild bred domestic bunny about three weeks ago. It is a young rabbit - I am guess less than 6 months. Anyway. The poor creature was too scared for me to get a good look at it's sex when I first got it and since I didn't have it in with my other rabbits I didn't bother look again.
Today while sweeping out the barn I put my two adult females in their outdoor turnouts and put the new rabbit in a seperate pen within their enclosures. I had intended to watch to see if the new rabbit would stay put in it's pen but then my 3 year old got hurt and well, when I came back the new rabbit was in with one of the females. AGHHHHH!!!

I didn't see them "in action but after seeing them in together I decided I had better take a look and sure enough - I have a male.

So now what?? Are female rabbits always ready to breed? Will I have a female trying to deliver in December??
Someone smack me upside the head. I don't want any baby bunnies!! Please tell me that bunnies take the winter off from procreation............. sigh.

Hiya,

Unfortunately, female rabbits can produce all year around - especially pet ones who have a good diet all year. They don't have seasons and are 'ready' whenever a buck turns up. At six months your buck will be fertile :(

The best solution would be for you to have the female spayed within the next few days - that will prevent fertilisation and any baby rabbits.

I'd recommend getting the buck done too - as you have found it only takes one slip up to cause problems :)

On the plus side, after neutering they could live together which is always nice. It's fun to watch rabbits playing/grooming together.
