Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Clipping nails..

Aim

New Kit
Is there an easier way??

Tonight is the first time we attempted to clip Petal's nails. She was quite squirmy. I wrapped her in a tea towel, keeping her head covered. Is this going to scar her for life?? And I only clipped a bit, as I didn't want to hit the quick. Any tips for a newbie??

that's right. You don't want to clip the blood veil, so just clip a bit at a time.

I also use a towel to cover my rabbit head, because she get nervous and try to bite, but of course, she needs the air, so I just do one paw at different time intervals.

You don't want your bunny to get too nervous w/ increase heart beat.

Sounds like you have managed ok ( :D can't say you need any advice as you obviously know what you are doing :D ), I am very lucky in the fact that my buns don't mind their claws being clipped so I don't have to wrap them in a towel.

we call it a bunny burrito

we hypnotise bump when we do hers as it looks like it causes her less stress - afterwards we just get a good flick rather than panting (which i take as a good sign).

I mananged to clip Skip's claws at the front while he was spread out and couldn't be bothered to move but the back ones are proving difficult

We are lucky both Ron and Ginny will sit there quiet still in their dads arms while I do the clipping.

We have to do Red's soon but she is quite fiesty actually very fiesty typically red head.....

Note to self..... must make sure I am wearing the hardest protection my arms  because DH when talking about red says that I look like I have been attacked by freddie krueger  .
